この曲のストーリー:古い市場の日曜日

「Market Morning」

[Verse 1]
Wake up, baby, grab your coat
Put your boots on, here we go
Breakfast first — some bread and egg
Butter on a biscuit, then we're off

[Pre]
Count the coins, bring the cash
A credit card for something flash
Every cent and every euro counts
A dollar saved is joy that mounts

[Chorus]
At the market in the morning sun
We buy a little, laugh a ton
A bargain here, a cheap delight
The cost of joy is small, alright
Apples red and carrots bright
Cheese and chicken — what a sight
Fill the basket, fill the heart
Market mornings — work of art

[Verse 2]
Try this dress, try that cap
A cotton scarf upon your lap
Jeans and jacket, gloves so cool
New clothes make the morning full
Clothing stalls with colours glow
One lost button? Love won't know!

[Bridge]
A cake for grandma, chocolate sweet
A cookie for the kids we meet
A birthday card for uncle too
Coffee steaming — morning's bill comes due
We split the expense — happy still
Exchange a smile, a piece of cloth
No beer, no alcohol today
The alcoholic drinks can wait
The bar next door still sleeps till late

[Outro]
Beef for pho on Sunday morn
Fruit so fresh as day is born
A cooker waiting at our place
Dinner's promise, your sweet face
Dressed in sunshine, hand in hand
Market mornings — simple, grand

English

On Sunday mornings, my parents and I go to the old market. Dad puts on his coat and boots; mum checks her bag: cash, a few coins, and one credit card “for emergencies only”. Breakfast is quick — warm bread with butter, a boiled egg, and a biscuit for the road.

The market wakes early. We buy red apples and sweet carrots, a piece of cheese, and a fresh chicken for soup. Mum is the queen of the bargain: she laughs, the seller laughs, and somehow everything becomes cheap. The cost of the whole basket makes dad smile — he converts it into dollars and cents and euros just for fun, then writes the expense in his little notebook. “Money loves order,” he says.

At the clothes corner, I try a denim jacket and new jeans; mum picks a flowered dress and a cotton scarf; dad finds warm gloves and a funny cap. A kind seller fixes a lost button with a needle and a piece of cloth. “Good clothes need not be costly,” she says, folding the clothing into brown paper.

Near the gate, the bar is still closed — no beer, no alcohol in the morning air; even the alcoholic drinks sleep until evening. Instead, we drink hot coffee and cocoa. We buy a chocolate cake for grandma, a cookie for my little cousin, and a birthday card for uncle Nam. When the waiter brings the bill, dad and mum exchange a look and split it, laughing about who drank more.

At noon we walk home. Mum lays beef and bright fruit on the table, the rice cooker begins to sing, and the smell of dinner fills the house. Dressed in comfortable old clothes, we cook together and tell market stories. Sunday mornings cost very little — and give us everything.
